Science and humanities symposium at UT Thursday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Dozens of Tennessee high school students will attend the 45th Tennessee Junior Science and Humanities Symposium Thursday at the University of Tennessee.

The symposium is one of 48 in the United States, and the only one in Tennessee.

Tennessee students in grades 9 through 12 will present original research and experiments conducted with their teachers in the sciences, mathematics and engineering. At last year’s symposium, student research ranged from better treatments for breast cancer to levitating objects in the air.

The presentations will be judged by a panel of UT science and engineering faculty members. Winners will be awarded a total of $4,500 in scholarships and will advance to the national competition in May.
