PAL’s mission is to support young people in theater, dance and music. There is no charge for this concert, however donations will be accepted to benefit local young performers through scholarships and grants.

West won the Performing Arts League Vocal Competition in 2013, and has since graduated from Juilliard and become a well-known baritone hailed as a “miraculous … nuanced singer.”

West will sing the famous German cycle Liederkreis Op. 39 by Robert Schumann as well as a set of Poulenc songs. The performance will conclude with three songs by American composer Wayne Oquin, Juilliard faculty member who wrote for West a set of songs featuring Southern poets.

A meet-and-greet reception will follow the concert. West will perform with the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera in April, when he will sing the part of Morales in “Carmen.”

This summer, West held a prestigious fellowship at Tanglewood Music Center, where projects included Leonard Bernstein’s “Opening Prayer” with the Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra while also making his debut as Bill in Bernstein’s “A Quiet Place.” In June, West traveled to Avaloch Music Farm in Boscawen, New Hampshire, where his interdisciplinary arts collective, Collaborative Arts Ensemble, was in residence.

In April 2018, he wrote and produced “Rhizome: A Theatrical Recital,” which featured 23 artists across three disciplines (actors, dancers, musicians), and was presented at The Juilliard School to great response. West also played Billy Bigelow in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel,” in a new production conceived by director John Giampietro at The Chautauqua Institution.
