Alabama coordinator Lane Kiffin appreciative of second dynasty

Lane Kiffin was an offensive assistant in the college football dynasty Pete Carroll built more than a decade ago at Southern California.

Kiffin is in his second season as offensive coordinator at Alabama, which will look to claim a fourth national championship in seven seasons Monday night when the Crimson Tide take on Clemson.

It is a dominating stretch under the leadership of Nick Saban that surpasses what USC accomplished, leaving Kiffin thankful that lightning has managed to strike twice.

“Pete Carroll used to say, ‘Anybody can do it one time, but if we’re going to have a championship program, you’re going to have to do it again and again and again,'” Kiffin said Wednesday afternoon during a news conference in Tuscaloosa. “This is a perfect example of that. You’re in a dynasty with different players and coaches.

“There have been a number of coaching changes here, so it all goes back to Coach Saban, his philosophy and his process.”
