One of the reasons Wes Moore said he took the East Carolina job was a desire for some new challenges after 12 very successful seasons at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
“I think that is a little bit of it,” he said last Monday, a day before he was introduced as ECU’s women’s basketball coach — and three days before he changed his mind and returned to UTC.
His Lady Mocs had won 11 straight Southern Conference regular-season championships, been to the NCAA tournament eight times and even pulled off a win, over Rutgers, in the 2004 tourney at McKenzie Arena.
Moore had done just about all there was to do at UTC, so why not venture out and see if he can make the magic happen elsewhere.
“There definitely is a comfort zone (at UTC),” he said. “We’ve kind of got it rolling, and when you’re winning, recruiting’s a little bit easier. And so I’ve probably been spoiled the last few years.”
