Schools not places for weapons

It is a basic rule that our schools should be places of safety for students as we seek to provide them educational opportunities for success in life.

It is a matter of concern, therefore, that police recently found a pistol, two large folding pocketknives and brass knuckles in the possession of four students at Brainerd High School.

The gun was not loaded, but it is disturbing that weapons were taken to school by students.

There should be no need for personal searches to avoid weapons at schools. The rules for school safety are clear. All students should understand them and abide by them for the safety of all.
