The date was Jan. 28, 2016. The place was the intersection by the Dollar General just below my church.

On that particular date, I was out of town with some of the men from my church at a retreat. My wife, son and daughters were in our Yukon at that intersection with my son driving. He has his learner’s permit and is working on getting in enough hours for his license.

My wife called me to tell me of the incident; she and my son and my girls were badly shaken.

A man in a black Jeep blocked them in the intersection and demanded that my son roll the window down. He did, and the man proceeded to viciously berate him for a perceived traffic violation. My wife quickly stepped in and informed him that my son had done exactly as his drivers ed instructor had taught him and exactly as the state driving manual directs. The man then spewed venom all over her, claiming that the drivers ed book and instructor were wrong, and that she as a mother should do a better job with her son. Making matters worse, he went on to claim to be retired law enforcement.

I was angry. Very angry.
