While many music venues take things a little easy during the summer months as music fans turn their attention to outdoor festivals, Chattanooga’s Songbirds Guitar Museum is ignoring that pattern and has packed its schedule full of great shows during the month of July. To make things a little more interesting, some artists will now be able to trace their degrees of separation from Kevin Bacon back to their Songbirds performance. He, too, is set to take the stage as part of this month’s lineup.
Devon Allman Project with special guest Duane Betts
The direct bloodlines from one of the world’s greatest bands will join forces for a night of entertainment at Songbirds South on Tuesday, July 10. Devon Allman, son of the late Gregg Allman, is out on tour with his newest blues rock band, the Devon Allman Project. And if that isn’t enough, he’s bringing along Duane Betts, son of The Allman Brothers Band founder Dickey Betts. Duane Betts has spent the past few years as a touring guitarist for the band Dawes, and now he is teaming up with Devon Allman to give fans of The Allman Brothers Band even more reasons to dance.
Randy Steele & Friends
Randy Steele, a longtime Chattanooga musician and frontman for Slim Pickins Bluegrass Band, is releasing a new EP, and he has put together a full night of music and friends for the official launch at Songbirds North on Thursday, July 12. Taking more of an Americana approach than Slim Pickins’ traditional bluegrass style, Steele is still reeling from the success of his debut album “Songs from the Suck,” and he doesn’t look to let up with the release of “Moccasin Bender.” Expect to hear new songs, old favorites and be treated to guest appearances from the Slim Pickins guys and other great musicians from the Scenic City.
The Bacon Brothers
Kevin and Michael Bacon have been playing music together since they were kids, but since Kevin took on the acting world, the brothers have only been playing live as The Bacon Brothers since 1995. Since then, they have released a number of albums and have found time to tour over the years. Their latest self-titled album was just released June 1, and they are out on tour to deliver their brand of alt-country and rock music to the world. Chattanoogans have an opportunity to catch the brothers live at Songbirds South on Tuesday, July 17.
River Whyless
Continuing the recent pattern of more and more indie bands popping up from North Carolina, Asheville-based River Whyless is set to bring its blend of indie folk to Songbirds North on Friday, July 20. After meeting as students at Appalachian State, the band members decided to make their home in Asheville, instead of Austin or Nashville. They are currently out on tour in support of their brand-new album “Kindness, A Rebel,” and it is a great time to see this band in an intimate setting as they continue their climb in the music scene.
