Good morning, Chattanooga!
For Women’s Fund of Greater Chattanooga Executive Director Erika Burnett, going to Tennessee State University felt like home.
“I decided pretty early on I wanted to attend a historically black college or university,” Burnett says. “I didn’t have the language for it at the time, but I wanted to be in a place where I felt more welcome and where there was community that I’d been missing.”
After attending Vanderbilt for her masters, in 2020 Burnett found herself in Chattanooga, where she leads the Women’s Fund to help shape public policy to better support area women, like helping to provide feminine hygiene products for teenagers during the pandemic while they were home from school.
“Chattanooga is home, at least for a little while,” she says. “I’m excited that I’m in a community that will go on this journey [to help women].”
