Registration for new kindergarten students for Hamilton County Schools for the 2019-20 school year will begin Monday, April 1.

Registration can be completed online via the district’s website at www.hcde.org.

Last year, the school district rolled out online registration to ease the process for parents.

For a child to attend kindergarten this fall, they must be five years old on or before Aug. 15, 2019.

Once parents have registered online, schools will contact parents to set-up a day and time to bring necessary documentation to the school to complete the registration.

This documentation includes: a certified copy of the child’s birth certificate, a Tennessee School Immunization Certificate, a photo ID of the parent or legal custodian of the child and/or proof of court-ordered custody of a child living with a divorced parent, custodian or guardian as well as two separate proofs of residency.

Those who do not have internet access can visit the district’s central office between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 3 to register. Registration will take place in the Board Room at 3074 Hickory Valley Road.

Registration for pre-K in Hamilton County also begins next week. Applications will be accepted at local schools that offer pre-K classes on April 3.

Application documents are available online now for you to download and complete. Application times at specific schools vary.

Hamilton County operates 42 pre-K classrooms in 25 different locations. Each classroom has a maximum of 20 students with one teacher and one teaching assistant.

The slots for pre-K are filled based on income and space. Parents will need to provide proof of income and residence when submitting a pre-K application. A child must be four years old on or before Aug. 15, 2019, to attend pre-K next year.

For more information on pre-K registration, visit: www.hcde.org.

Parents can also use the district’s School Zone Finder tool on the website for helping finding their zoned school.
