Chattanooga police are investigating reports of a single gunshot fired in the parking lot outside of Bar Louie at the Hamilton Place mall.
CPD spokesman Tim McFarland said the incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Saturday. He said a verbal altercation between 6-7 males inside the mall spilled outside to the parking lot. McFarland said that investigators didn’t believe that there was a physical altercation once outside, but when the two groups split up and started walking away, one of the group members fired a shot in the direction of the other group.
McFarland said the suspect ran into the mall, then fled on foot. He said CPD performed a sweep of the mall, and couldn’t find the suspect. He said several witnesses called police about the incident, none of whom were involved in the altercation.
According to McFarland, there were no known injuries or property damage at this time.
He also said CPD is going to try to pull surveillance video from the mall and attempt to identify the suspect. He said in the event that CPD needs assistance identifying the suspect, the video or images will be released to media outlets.
