The staff at local service organization Four Points Inc. is excited to host the eighth annual Northwest Georgia Senior Living Expo Thursday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Walker County Civic Center in Rock Spring.

Admittance is free and includes entertainment such as crafts and bingo;,prize giveaways, health screenings, and information on the prevention and intervention of elder abuse. The event is sponsored by the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit’s elder abuse team.

“The purpose of this event is to bring awareness to elder abuse and to have vendors there that can help elders in different situations in their life and [let them know] what to do if there is elder abuse,” said Sandra Israel, domestic violence task force team coordinator at Four Points. “We will have some skits that are performed about financial abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, but the primary purpose is to give the seniors a good day out while promoting awareness of elder abuse.”

Local attorneys will be on-site to offer legal advice concerning wills and will be available to answer different legal questions, she added.

Guests can also come prepared to take a focus on their health.

“Last year we had flu shots, and we are pretty sure we are going to have flu shots this year too,” Israel said. “They can go around and have their blood pressure taken as well as other minor health checks.”

Beyond being informative, the event is also meant to be fun. The “Seniors Got Talent” show, featuring seniors from across North Georgia, will begin at 10 a.m. Cash prizes and trophies will be awarded to winners. Thus far, entries include acts such as dance routines, singing and comedy performances.

Guests will also have an opportunity to visit dozens of nonprofit and for-profit vendors.

To help seniors make the most of the day, a lunch of chicken, stuffing, green beans, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce and banana pudding will be available for $5, with no pre-order necessary. Door prizes will be issued during lunch.

Four Points is a nonprofit organization involved in the prevention and intervention of domestic violence in Walker, Catoosa, Dade and Chattooga counties.
