Zaqwaun Matthews, a 6-foot-4 freshman guard for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s basketball program, will not return next season.
Matthews played in 10 games during the 2015-16 season, scoring seven points. Five of those points came in a 125-85 victory over The Citadel on Feb. 1.
The former three-star prospect from Myers Park, N.C., also had eight assists and five rebounds.
“First off I would like to thank God, (the) University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, coaches and teammates for a wonderful opportunity to be a part of this great program but Coach (Matt) McCall and I have decided it was best I transfer,” Matthews posted on his Twitter account Tuesday.
His departure leaves the program with only two freshmen: guard Peyton Woods and forward Jackson White. Center Rich Kalina recently announced his departure.
