Two weekend fires destroy trailer and workshop

Fire investigators seek the cause of two weekend fires that destroyed buildings but left no injuries.

At 2:15 a.m. Sunday a loud explosion rocked neighbors of 1924 Lakewood Ave., in the Middle Valley area and sent a 100-foot fire ball into the air.

Dallas Bay Volunteer firefighters responded and called in Red Bank and Soddy Daisy firefighters for assistance and standby crews. The building that had exploded housed a concrete truck, personal truck and motorcycles owned by Mark Evans, according to a Hamilton County Emergency Services release.

Firefighters said the intense head from gas and propane tanks stored in the building cased the explosion and fire ball.

Mr. Evans house, just 50 feet away, was saved, but the building and all contents were destroyed. Firefighters estimated the damage at $300,000.
