A second ninth-grader from a northwest Georgia high school has committed to join the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball program in 2020.
The most recent is North Murray third baseman McKinley Fields, who said she received a scholarship offer from UTC coach Frank Reed after participating in a camp on campus on Sept. 11.
“It was a great offer, and I feel like the campus is great and they have a great staff,” Fields said Tuesday. “I want to major in education, and they have a top-notch education program. It’s not far from home, either, and I love everybody there. I felt no other school could offer all that.”
She has attended “a bunch of camps” so had a good comparison, she said.
“This takes a weight off me,” Fields said. “Now when I go to travel-ball college showcase tournaments I can just go and play. I’m really glad to have the recruiting process over.”
