Historians say the quiet forests of the Lookout Mountain battlefield were once bustling with human activity. Modern hikers, when they know where to look, can still find traces of that past along the trails.

The 5-mile hike will cover nearly 600 feet of elevation change over rock and uneven terrain. Participants should wear supportive footwear, dress appropriately for the weather and bring water. A day pack and light trail snacks are also recommended.
