A Sunday afternoon traffic crash killed a person on Interstate 24 in Marion County.

The crash happened in the westbound lanes near the Kimball exit, Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. John Harmon confirmed.

The Tennessee Department of Transportation said multiple vehicles were involved and the westbound lanes were closed after the crash.

The interstate reopened, but one lane remains closed and isn’t expected to be cleared until 1 a.m. CST.

Harmon said the crash involved a tractor trailer and added that there was another crash just a few miles away on I-24.

“Traffic is heavy on the interstate system,” Harmon said, “and we would ask that all motorists be patient as we work these crash scenes.”

No information was immediately available about how the wreck happened or other victims.
