Another season of Counterpoint concerts at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church begins Thursday.
Leading off is Aaron Roche, who will present a full concert of his folk-inspired songs, according to Tim Hinck, a Chattanooga-based composer, pianist and organ/harpsichordist.
Roche is a New York-based artist who attended Southern Adventist University.
Roche and Hinck completed a recording this year, titled “Plainspeak,” that includes several collaborative compositions.
“In fact, several of the tracks on the album were recorded partially in St. Peter’s Church, where you will hear us perform,” Hinck said in a news release. “These pieces are inspired by the worlds of indie folk and classical music, a combination that is quite beautiful and difficult to achieve.”
Their influences on the recording include the works of such classical composers as Stravinsky, Copeland, Reich, Glass, and Part, he said, as well as artists in the burgeoning indie scene, such as Bjork, Sigur Ros, Nico Muhly and D.M. Stith.
The recording is still in production, but advance copies may be reserved at the Counterpoint concert. Music starts at 7 p.m. St. Peter’s is at 848 Ashland Terrace.
