National Weather Service officials say they’re expecting cold weather to continue through Wednesday, with morning lows expected to reach the mid-teens and low 20s.

Forecasters also say a hard freeze is expected throughout north and central Georgia Tuesday night and are asking residents to protect pets, the elderly and sensitive vegetation.

National Weather Service data Tuesday morning showed it was 23 degrees in Cartersville and Gainesville; 24 in Rome; and 25 in Marietta.

A U.S. Forest Service weather station recorded 13 degrees near Brasstown Bald – Georgia’s highest peak – and 19 degrees in the north Georgia mountains in Murray County.
