After the first day of the Class Large state tournament at WillowBrook Golf Club in Manchester, Walker Valley’s boys are in position for the best finish in program history.
Heading into today’s final round, the Mustangs are in third place in the team standings, nine strokes behind Knoxville Halls but just two behind Hendersonville.
“Our goal was to be in the top four, to be in that first group going into the final round, so we’re right where we wanted to be,” Mustangs coach Bob Williams said. “The best we’ve ever finished is fourth, so we’ve put ourselves in good position.”
Senior Nick McCracken shot 4 under par, tied for fourth, in the individual standings, and is four back of leader Ryan Hall of Halls. Cleveland’s Drew Linkous is tied for 14th at 3 over, and Bradley Central’s Gage Brakebill shot 6 over and is tied for 36th overall.
“Nick’s score was a little bit of a surprise,” Williams added. “That’s his best score, so to do it on this stage is pretty awesome.”
