Things don’t always go as planned on the football field, but Soddy-Daisy made it work out Friday night.
The Trojans narrowly defended their home turf in a 35-32 shootout win against Red Bank to open the season.
Trojans coach Justin Barnes said the game plan was to run the Lions defenders on the hot summer night and wear on them. Some early miscues slowed the process.
“That first half, we did nothing right,” Barnes said. “We had two good scoring drives, but other than that it was a fumble or a bad snap just shooting ourselves in the foot and giving them opportunities. We just couldn’t get in a rhythm.”
Though Soddy-Daisy struggled to hit the ground running, it got on the board first. A fumble stalled the first drive, and it looked as though penalties would crush the second.
