There was no late-inning drama Wednesday night at AT&T Field as the Chattanooga Lookouts fell 6-4 to the Pensacola Blue Wahoos before an announced crowd of 3,650.
Bryson Smith, Tony Renda, Alex Blandino, Kyle Parker and Eric Jagielo each had two hits for Pensacola, which won for a second straight night. The Blue Wahoos outlasted the Lookouts on Tuesday night 10-9 in 11 innings after Chattanooga tied the game in the eighth and ninth innings.
Pensacola opened Wednesday’s contest with singles by Smith, Renda, Blandino and Parker, who was Clemson’s starting quarterback in 2009 and 2010. Blandino and Parker drove in runs, and Blandino scored on a passed ball to put the Blue Wahoos up 3-0.
The Lookouts (14-19) pulled within 3-2 later in the first inning on a Dalton Hicks double to right field that scored Leo Reginatto and Travis Harrison. Chattanooga tied the game in the third inning when Daniel Palka homered to right-center.
The Blue Wahoos went ahead to stay in the fourth inning when Jagielo doubled to right and scored on a David Hurlbut wild pitch. A Blandino RBI single to left in the seventh put Pensacola up 5-3, and a Chad Wallach RBI double to left in the eighth made it 6-3.
Ryan Walker’s two-out single to right later in the eighth scored Reginatto to get Chattanooga within 6-4.
Aaron Slegers (2-2, 2.68 ERA) is scheduled to start tonight’s 7:15 game on the mound for the Lookouts, with Nick Travieso (1-2, 6.20) scheduled for Pensacola.
