Steven Fox played the best golf round of his life Friday and the best competitive round ever at the Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Ky.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior set the course record with an 8-under-par 64 in the second round of the NCAA South Central Regional.

“I had a feeling from the beginning, and I had only seven putts through the first seven holes,” Fox said via cell phone. “Every putt that I looked at went in. On every putt, it felt like it was going to go in or touch the lip.”

Fox’s round helped the Mocs shoot a 7-under 281, which puts them in third place at 1-under 575 with one round to play. The top five teams advance to the NCAA championship tournament in California.

UCLA leads the regional at 571, and Texas A&M shot 10 under Friday and is at 573. The Mocs are followed by Memphis at 582 and Virginia Tech at 583.
