University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior forward Shanara Hollinquest, already the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week, was named the league’s December player of the month Friday.
Meanwhile, the Mocs’ Ty Patterson, a senior guard, was named the men’s basketball player of the month.
Hollinquest, the reigning SoCon player of the year, heads into Saturday’s game at Appalachian State leading the league in scoring (18.9 points per game) and rebounding (9.0). She averaged 18.4 points and 9.1 rebounds in seven games in December. Hollinquest was also the player of the month for November.
The Lady Mocs have won eight of their last nine games.
Patterson averaged 16.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in December, including a double-double (22 points, 11 rebounds) against Eastern Kentucky. The Mocs are 5-2 since Patterson returned from an eight-game academic suspension.
