* Hamilton Heights point guard Milos Andelic has signed a letter of intent to continue his basketball career in town at Chattanooga State Community College. Andelic played one season for the Hawks, who went 28-5, and averaged 8.2 points and 3.1 assists a game. The native of Montenegro is known for his defensive tenacity and energy, and Chattanooga State coach Jay Price — a former University of Tennessee point guard — is impressed by that. “He’s a very hard-nosed defender and strong. He’s going to be a good point guard for us,” Price said. “He’s tough. Every team needs somebody as tough as him. He has a chance to come in and play right away.” Said Hawks coach Zach Farrell: “Coach Price and his staff do a phenomenal job, and they are getting a great player in Milos. Milos has an amazing ability to control a game on the defensive end with his quickness and ball pressure. He also brings a great offensive skill set that will benefit Chattanooga State.”

* LaFayette’s Haley Blevins and Trion’s Hayley Jones were recent additions to the Georgia Northwestern Technical College women’s basketball recruits list for 2015-16. Jones is the first Trion girl to play for the two-year school, after several Trion guys have been Bobcats, and Lady Cats coach David Stephenson said “she will bring a lot of different things to our program. She’s 5-foot-9 but very athletic and has long arms.” He also noted her high grade point average. “She works hard and she’s put in the time working on basketball since she was little,” Trion coach Emily Claytor said in a GNTC release. “They are getting a heck of an athlete and someone that can help out right from the beginning.” Blevins said she had been playing the sport since she was 5, “and I just kind of taught myself out in the back yard,” and she’s delighted she can continue it competitively at least two more years. She averaged 5.8 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.3 steals a game as a LaFayette senior, making the All-Walker County second team, and Stephenson said he was glad to get her. “She can shoot the ball, but being 5-foot-9, she can give us a bit of an inside presence,” he said. “Like several of our other recruits, she’s a ballplayer that just happens to be a girl instead of a girl ballplayer, and that’s what we continue to look for.”

Golf

* Led by Alastair Tidcombe with a 7-under-par 65 and helped by a 74 from Heritage High School graduate Hunter Cornelius, defending champion Coastal Georgia is tied for first with William Woods University at 282 after the first round of the 2015 NAIA men’s national golf tournament at the LPGA International Golf Club at Daytona Beach, Fla. Tennessee Wesleyan is in a three-way tie for sixth at 294 after Monday’s round, and Dalton State is in a three-way for 12th at 297 in the 72-hole event. Sean Elliott shot a third-place 68 for Dalton State, which got 75s from Levi Nix and Maximillian Bruck and a 79 from Chase Jones. Anthony D’Angelo dropped out midway through with back problems. Evan Ball led Tennessee Wesleyan with a 70; Travis Rodgers shot 73, Keoni Vidrine 74 and McKennan Rue 77 for the Bulldogs.

Baseball

* The Charleston MoJo beat the Red Bank Nationals 12-5 and 12-2 this past Sunday and now are 5-1 with a two-game lead in the standings of the area United States Adult Baseball League. The first game ended with a seven-run fifth inning capped by an RBI single from Colby Dills and a two-run single by Juan Forte. Dills was 4-for-4 in that game and hit a two-run homer in the rematch, when Jake Wyrick was 2-for-2 with two homers and three RBIs, Koltyn Plumb hit a three-run homer and Matt Roueche had a two-run single and was the winning pitcher. The MoJo will play this Saturday and Sunday in a Memorial Day tournament at Madisonville and Charleston.
