Ooltewah High School’s media and journalism class has one month remaining to secure its position as the winner for an online video competition.

For a $1,000 prize, the class created a video focusing on how technology would improve their class experience and education, said teacher Chris Brown. He credits his students for taking on the role of creating such a project and, in particular, student Cade Shortt for finding the competition and pitching the idea.

“There’s nothing that makes me prouder than students who take on something like this,” Brown said. “The winnings will go to making the class better, allow for bigger projects for future students.”

In the 2-minute video, students use fake props made of cardboard to show all the real-world experience they would receive if video equipment was available to them.

“We’ve got the motivation, we’ve got the know-how, we just don’t have quite all of the technology that we need here,” Brown explains at the beginning of the video.
