TDOT bridge repair crews have completed repairs and will reopen by 5 p.m. CDT today the bridge on U.S. Highway 41 over the Tennessee River near Nickajack Dam in Marion County.
Bridge inspectors discovered an area of corroded steel Thursday during a routine inspection that necessitated closure of the bridge for repair and further evaluation, according to the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
Crews made the necessary repairs Friday and completed the inspection, which yielded no additional problem areas.
The bridge originally opened to traffic in 1929 and was rehabilitated in 1966. TDOT will open bids on a project to totally replace the bridge in December 2010.
