TUSCUMBIA, Ala. – A man who was caught digging a shallow grave near Scottsboro has been charged with murder in his girlfriend’s death.

Authorities say Tuesday that 55-year-old Timothy Wade Warhurst has been charged with murder in the death of 47-year-old Wanda Ivey.

Warhurst of Tuscumbia was taken into custody after he was found digging a hole in the northeast Alabama woods.

Police said they worked from a tip to find the man on Sunday and found Ivey’s body in the trunk of his car after they obtained a search warrant. Officials have said the man was found roughly 100 miles from home.

It’s unclear if Warhurst has an attorney.
