Stanford advances to match play; Langley wins medalist honor

The Stanford Cardinal completed two playoff holes Friday at 3-under par to advance as the eighth seed for the match play portion of the 2010 NCAA golf championship at the Honors. The Cardinal beat San Diego and Arizona State in the playoff that covered holes Nos. 10, 11, 15, 16, 17 and 18.

Illinois junior Scott Langley finished as the individual winner, shooting 10-under after three rounds.

“It means a lot to be the medalist,” Langley said Friday morning. “It has been a year of ups and downs for me. I have come close a lot to winning this year, but to finally pull it off by stringing three rounds together at a stage like this really blows me away. I am very happy to win, but it is still disappointing because my team is not playing today. To win this is very special to me.”
