Those getting a late start on their summer garden can still get a variety of herbs – and expertise – at Ooltewah Nursery and Landscape Co.’s Build an Herb Garden Workshop Saturday, May 28 from 9-11 a.m.

The class requires no sign-up, said Marketing Director Angel Miller, and all participants will be able to select and pot their own herbs to take home with them. The class, taught by Faith Sharp, the nursery’s herb expert, will focus on which herbs can be potted together, drainage, watering and more.

Herbs have many uses dating back before recorded history. Some can even help repel mosquitoes, such as lemongrass, lemon balm, lemon thyme and others,” she said. “However, they are most popular for the amazing flavor they can add to food. A pot of fresh herbs in the kitchen window makes it so easy to add a boost of healthy flavor to your meals without adding additional fat or salt.”

Attendees are free to bring pots from home, Miller said, or purchase pots at the workshop with coupons provided.

“This is just going to be a super-fun event,” she said. “For a price, they’ll be able to select their herbs and pots. We’ll have a variety of different sizes to chose from and price will be based on what each person wants.”

On average, she said, attendees should expect to spend $20-$25.

The nursery and landscaping company is at 5829 Main St. in Ooltewah. For more information, call 238-9775 or visit ooltewahnursery.com.
