The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women’s soccer team will be opening its home schedule at 2 p.m. Sunday at Finley Stadium, but don’t tell the Lady Mocs. At least not until late tonight.
That’s because they want to follow the lead of coach J.D. Kyzer and focus solely on the game immediately upcoming, and the Lady Mocs play Lipscomb tonight in their season opener in Nashville.
“We’re only concerned about the team that’s ahead of us,” said junior forward Donna-Kay Henry, a preseason all-conference pick. “Then after a game we’ll go to the chalkboard and look at our successes and our shortcomings, and then think about the next team.”
Still, the game Sunday against geographic rival Tennessee Tech will be UTC’s first in the stadium since 2004 – and its first home match ever on artificial turf – and it begins a free “Meet the Mocs” event involving all UTC fall sports, capped by a football practice.
Henry, for one, is excited about playing games at Finley.
