Man shot in finger on 38th Street

Chattanooga police are investigating an early morning shooting on East 38th Street.

Darius Sneed told police that he and a friend were walking along the street about 4 a.m. and saw a newer model gray Ford Taurus slow down as it approached them, according to a police report.

Sneed walked toward the car, thinking he knew the driver, but as he neared the vehicle he saw a chrome .38-caliber pistol in the driver’s lap.

He yelled to his friend to run and was struck in the finger by a shot fired from the gun as he ran away, the report states.

The shooter was described as a “chubby black male” 5 feet 5, wearing a baseball cap with an “A” on the front. Sneed was treated and released from Erlanger hospital.

According to police and newspaper archives, this is the 50th shooting with injury reported this year in Chattanooga.

No arrests have been made in the investigation.
