Five people who stole a person’s car at gunpoint Saturday evening and led police on a chase to Frazier Avenue are in jail, Chattanooga police said.
In a news release, police said the group stole a gold Chevrolet Malibu from a person in the 5600 block of Central Avenue at 7:26 p.m.
Officer David Cowan spotted the car traveling north on Market Street and tried to conduct a traffic stop at Aquarium Way. Instead, the driver took off across the Market Street Bridge, but missed the right turn at Frazier Avenue and crashed into a tree on the westbound sidewalk.
The thieves all jumped out of the car and ran into the Walgreens on the corner, where they were rounded up and arrested by 7:45. No one was hurt in the incident, police said.
The suspects’ names and charges will be released later. Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call 423-698-2525.
