The Chattanooga Lookouts are still looking for their first player this season to be recognized as the Southern League hitter or pitcher of the week.

They have their best candidate yet.

Right fielder Daniel Palka returned to AT&T Field on Sunday afternoon following a five-game series in Birmingham, Ala., in which he had five home runs, including a grand slam. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound former Georgia Tech standout leads the Southern League with 12 homers, though he did not go deep in Sunday evening’s 3-1 loss to Jacksonville.

“Obviously I am extremely happy about how I played in Birmingham,” Palka said. “Things were just kind of swinging the right direction a couple of those nights. I was zoned in and got some good pitches to hit.

“I’m happy with some adjustments that I’ve made after a little bit of struggles.”
