Walker Valley senior guard Courtney Gobble was the only area player named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s all-state basketball teams for Class AAA. Gobble, a Tennessee Wesleyan recruit, averaged 12.6 points, 4.3 assists and 3.6 steals per game and helped the Lady Mustangs reach the state tournament for the first time in five years.
Walker Valley finished unbeaten in the district regular season and won the Region 3 tournament before losing in the state tournament quarterfinals to eventual state runner-up Morristown West. The Lady Mustangs finished 32-3.
The boys’ list was dominated by West Tennessee teams, with 10 of the 16 players coming from that portion of the state.
