Tennessee picked up its second cornerback commitment in two days Saturday, when Tyus Fields announced his pledge to the Volunteers.

Fields, a four-star prospect from Cornelius, North Carolina, is the 17th commitment for the Vols’ 2019 class of recruits. Prospects cannot sign until December at the earliest.

Fields is the nation’s No. 23 cornerback in the 2019 class, according to 247Sports.com. He chose Tennessee over Clemson, where his brother Mark is a defensive back.

His commitment comes the day after the Vols received one from Warren Burrell of North Gwinnett High School in the Atlanta area, their first from a cornerback in the 2019 class.

Fields’ commitment catapulted Tennessee’s 2019 class from 14th nationally in the 247Sports recruiting rankings to 12th and fifth in the Southeastern Conference as vacancies in the Vols’ first full class under first-year head coach Jeremy Pruitt begin to dwindle.
