Not a former congressman’s job

We do not think President Barack Obama should have launched military strikes on Libya without a congressional declaration of war. But with our nation having joined a military offensive against Libya and its dictator Moammar Gadhafi, it was wrong for former U.S. Rep. Curt Weldon, R-Pa., to accept an invitation from Gadhafi recently to make a “private” visit to Libya – even though Weldon’s noble purpose was to ask Gadhafi to step down.

The president – not Congress nor former members of Congress – has authority to guide U.S diplomacy.

Whether or not one agrees with a particular military action, that rule should be respected.
