LaFAYETTE, Ga. – Some would consider LaFayette’s 2-1 weather-shortened Region 7-AAA baseball win Thursday night against visiting Allatoona a little flukey. Ramblers coach Dan Torrenti won’t be one of those, and he won’t let his players hear any of it.
LaFayette (8-8, 6-5) scored two unearned runs in the fourth inning and rode the pinpoint pitching of junior right-hander Micah Wyatt to one of the bigger wins in recent program history against the state-ranked Buccaneers (11-5, 7-3). The game was called after five innings and two hours due to lightning.
Moments after the game was officially called, a severe thunderstorm struck the LaFayette area.
“You hate situations like this because we want to play it, but the rules are the rules and we can’t put the kids at danger,” Torrenti said. “We did a good job executing. We got some baserunners and took advantage of some mistakes in the fourth. It’s like I told them: You didn’t win this because of lightning; you won it because you executed and did the little things right.
