Chattanooga: Motorcyclist killed in wreck

A motorcycle rider was killed early Sunday in an accident on North Access Road, according to Chattanooga police spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Royval.

At about 3 a.m., a Honda driven by Samantha Lowe, 25, was traveling in the roundabout on North Access going toward Highway 153 North, when a Harley-Davidson motorcycle ridden by Zachery Nichols, crossed over double yellow lines to pass on the left, Officer Royval said. When Mr. Nichols attempted to get back in the proper lane, he lost control of the motorcycle and went down a small embankment, Officer Royval said.

Ms. Lowe attempted to avoid striking Mr. Nichols, but her car flipped and landed on the rider, Officer Royval said. Mr. Nichols, 24, died as a result of his injuries sustained in the crash, Officer Royval said.

No charges will be filed, Officer Royval said, but speed, alcohol and improper passing were factors in this crash.
