The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga has decided to part ways with head women’s basketball coach Katie Burrows after four seasons, announcing a “change of direction in the program” on Tuesday.
Burrows finished with a four-year record of 46-68, although that mark was a solid 32-24 in Southern Conference play and included a share of the 2020 SoCon regular-season championship. Her final team, one riddled by injuries, youth and defections, was a program-worst 7-23 in her final season with the Mocs, which included separate nine- and six-game losing skids.
She also had a 13-game losing streak in the 2019-20 season.
“I would like to thank Coach Burrows and her staff for their hard work and dedication to our women’s basketball program,” UTC vice chancellor and athletic director Mark Wharton said in a press release. “This was a tough decision to make, but after careful consideration and evaluation, a change in direction and leadership is needed at this time.”
Burrows had a storied career as a player for UTC from 2000-04, helping the Mocs to four consecutive SoCon championships and four NCAA tournament appearances with a record of 102-23 in that span. Her final season, the Mocs had a 27-game win streak and posted the program’s one and only victory in the NCAA tournament, defeating Rutgers.
