The choir at St. Elmo United Methodist Church has been invited to perform at Carnegie Hall in New York City, according to a news release from Distinguished Concerts International New York City.

In the release, Dr. Jonathan Griffin, artistic director and principal conductor for Distinguished Concerts International New York City (DCINY), said the invitation was extended “because of the quality and high level of musicianship demonstrated by the singers as well as the exceptional quality of their audio recording.”

He added, “It is quite an honor to be invited to perform in New York. These wonderful musicians not only represent a high quality of music and education, but they also become ambassadors for the entire community. This is an event of extreme pride for everybody and deserving of the community’s recognition and support.”

The choir, under the direction of Keith Walker, will take part in the New York premiere of Joseph Martin’s “The Winter Rose” on Nov. 26. Martin, a North Carolina native now living in Texas, is an educator, performer and composer whose first solo piano recording, “American Tapestry,” was nominated for a Dove award, according to the release. He has more than 1,200 compositions in print.

Group members will spend five days and four nights in New York so they can rehearse as well as have time to enjoy the city, the release states.
