The Saturday before Thanksgiving means its time for the Sewanee Arts & Crafts Association’s annual Christmas Fair. It’s one of the few remaining fine-art shows this season.
SACA members will show and sell their work Saturday in Cravens Hall on the campus of the University of the South from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. CST.
* Twenty-three artists and craftsmen are showing their work in Athens, Tenn., at the second Holiday Trunk Show in The Arts Center, 320 N. White St. All are from the Cleveland-Athens area with the exception of Chattanoogan Allen Hampton.
This is the second year for the event, which is held in conjunction with the city’s Old-Fashioned Downtown Christmas celebration.
“We were more successful last year than we ever dreamed,” said organizer Pat Armstrong. “There is literally something for everyone with pieces at all price points.”
Armstrong said the show will offer original art and prints, home accessories, jewelry, pottery, glass, wood, soaps, cards, scarves and other handiwork.
Saturday’s hours are timed so that shoppers may drop by The Arts Center on their way to the Old-Fashioned Christmas, which begins at 4 p.m. Pictures with Santa, with the $5 fee benefiting The Arts Center, will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. in Knight Park.
From 5 to 8 p.m., the center will offer children’s crafts, and parents may pick up their Santa photos, Armstrong said.
* An art show at Sassy Shadows Pottery and an open house at the Sequatchie Valley Institute are set for Saturday afternoon.
SVI is the environmental center about a 45-minute drive from Chattanooga. Visitors may tour SVI’s permaculture gardens and hand-crafted solar-powered “green” homes and buildings.
Carol Kimmons will be exhibiting her pottery and decorations that include bird feeders, mugs, leaf pendants and leaf-imprint wall hangings.
