Chattanooga relief pitcher Cole St. Clair opened the 10th inning by allowing a walk to Dave Sappelt and a two-run home run to Mike Costanzo as the Lookouts painfully went down to a sixth consecutive defeat Sunday, losing 8-6 in extra innings.
The Lookouts (17-25) loaded the bases with one out in the ninth and 10th innings but couldn’t take advantage. Chattanooga scored the game’s first four runs on RBI singles by Eddy Perez, Jaime Pedroza and Trayvon Robinson and on a home run to right by Kyle Russell.
Carolina (21-22) pulled within 5-4 in the fifth inning on Sappelt’s two-run single and tied it in the eighth on Brandon Yarbrough’s RBI single to center.
Game three of a five-game series in Carolina is tonight at 7:15.
Jesus Castillo (4-6, 2.68) is scheduled to start for the Lookouts, with Scott Carroll (3-6, 2.96) scheduled for the Mudcats.
