DUNLAP: No tax increases planned

County Executive Michael Hudson has said that, while county tax revenues have remained steady and near projections for last year’s budget, sales tax is under the anticipated amount. But he does not anticipate any tax increase as the committees formulate their 2010 budget. Each department has been asked to work within the framework of last year’s budget, tighten their belts on spending.

For the budget year 2009, the contribution for the fire department was doubled, all sanitation centers have installed used-oil receptacles, a cardboard compactor for each center has been added and a grant has been applied for that would allow for dollars to purchase plastic recycling bins.

Two projects have been completed – a health department building and the replacement of the county highway facilities that were destroyed by fire. There remains one payment on the county recreation park project and funds are being sought to refurbish the tennis courts.

Goals for 2010 are to pay as we go, keep the debt service low and continue to improve services as was done with the remounting of one of the ambulances on a new chassis and engine.

In the Feb. 26 edition of Community Correspondents, an editing error led to confusion about the $100 memorial bricks being sold by the Chamber. The engraved bricks will be placed in the streets of Dunlap.
