Southern Burger Co. has been winning taste buds over since bringing the food owner Christian Siler preps in Hixson to Warehouse Row as part of Street Food Tuesdays, the local incarnation of the food truck trend that’s been sweeping the nation. The local burger truck now has a chance to win the national Great Food Truck Race.
Voting ends Sept. 12 for the Food Network contest, in which Southern Burger Co. is in the running for a spot on the show by the same name, which airs Sundays at 9 p.m. Southern Burger Co. is currently No. 40 out of 250 food trucks nominated.
“We’re excited to be in the top 20 percent and possibly get to represent Chattanooga on the national level,” said Siler.
Siler said his goal is to have another burger truck within the year, with a brick-and-mortar location a possibility for the future.
In regards to his current food truck, he said he has other spots where he also typically parks downtown, and he also goes to East Brainerd where Shallowford Road meets Highway 153.
“In a business, that’s location, location, location; it’s nice to be able to move,” he said.
Red Bank resident Karen Gimon, who works at City Hall, attended the first Street Food Tuesday and was back to try Southern Burger Co. last week.
“It’s hard to leave work and go when you see it on Facebook,” she said, as Southern Burger Co. typically announces its location via the social media site, but it must be worth it.
“They have great toppings for hamburgers,” said Jennifer Jones, who ordered the Mushroom Swiss.
In addition to sauteed mushrooms, possible premium toppings include fried eggs, bacon and bacon jam, and the truck also offers a variety of cheeses.
