Suit defense could mean adverse outcome

The Tennessee Valley has been blessed with an abundance of water resources that continue to provide tremendous benefits and opportunities to our communities and their citizens.

For decades, our rivers, lakes and waterways have made significant contributions to successful economic development and diverse job creation throughout the region.

Environmental watchdog organizations recently have filed notices of intent and formal lawsuits against both private industries and public utilities, contending that operations have resulted in the polluting of ground and surface water resources.

Although there has been no accusation that flagrant violations of established practices have occurred, Tennessee Valley private industry is now being forced to defend itself, and the costs associated with defense of litigation by public utilities will be shouldered by the innocent ratepayers/taxpayers of the communities they serve.
