Titans draft QB Malik Willis in third round

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee Titans capped their second night of the 2022 NFL draft by trading up and selecting a quarterback.

Team management insisted making Malik Willis of Liberty the third quarterback taken in this draft was simply about picking the best player available. But it could create competition at the position, even if incumbent starter Ryan Tannehill has the league’s highest salary-cap figure and is coming off a down season.

“We’ll see how it shakes out,” Titans general manager Jon Robinson said. “You can’t have enough of them. We saw that last year when we went through 91 different players.”

In their third trade of this draft, the Titans dealt the 90th and 169th selections to the Las Vegas Raiders to move up to No. 86 and pick Willis. In addition to Tannehill and now Willis, Tennessee has Logan Woodside and Kevin Hogan as quarterbacks on their current roster.

“I don’t think anybody’s going to be able to talk about anybody’s future tonight,” coach Mike Vrabel said.
