RINGGOLD, Ga. – So much for momentum.
The Heritage Generals entered Tuesday night’s basketball game with Catoosa County rival Ringgold on a high after an impressive road win over Dalton. The Tigers, on the other hand, were coming off a loss to the other Catoosa County team, struggling Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.
Ringgold, continuing the up-and-down nature of northwest Georgia basketball this season, shook off its disappointment and used balanced scoring and a strong inside game to stun the Generals, 70-58.
“We haven’t played real well for most of the season both inside and out in any one game, but tonight we did,” said Ringgold coach Greg Elkins, whose team built a 29-19 halftime lead and never was really challenged afterward.
“I challenged my big men before the game, and they rose to the occasion and played really well. Heritage has some size, and probably nobody in this county believed we could guard them. I was proud of the effort.”
