The Chattanooga Football Club clinched another National Premier Soccer League Southeast Conference championship with a 1-1 draw Saturday night in Memphis against the Memphis City FC. The one point for a tie gave Chattanooga FC (7-0-1) 22 points in league play, a total no other team can catch in the 10-game season. Jon Finlay scored in the 48th minute on a Luis Trude assist for CFC, and Memphis equalized five minutes later. The CFC women lost 2-0 at Memphis City and are 3-5. They host the Atlanta Silverbacks at 7 p.m. Thursday.

* Wesley Strader from Spring City, Tenn., moved up four places to 10th Saturday in the Walmart FLW Tour bass tournament on Lake Champlain in New York and will compete in the final round today. Andy Morgan of Dayton, who clinched his third Angler of the Year title in four years by making the top 20, finished 13th with 50 pounds, 8 ounces of bass and received $12,000. The winner can get $125,000. Strader caught 16-9 on Saturday and is at 51-1 for three days. Scott Martin of Clewiston, Fla., leads with 58-10.

Basketball

* Caleb Haynes from Section High School on Sand Mountain committed recently to play basketball for Covenant College. Haynes is a 6-foot-5 honor student and forward who averaged 17 points and 10 rebounds a game as Section went 26-6 and reached the Alabama Class 2A semifinals this past season. He was 2A all-state and the area and region tournaments’ most valuable player. “I only had Caleb for one year. He came in and solidified our team,” Section coach Jamie Pruett said in a Covenant web posting. “The year before we were an average team, but his play on both offense and defense made us a much improved team and enabled us to have the great run we had at the end.” Another recent men’s basketball commitment for the Scots and coach Kyle Taylor is Michael Hollis from Pope High in Marietta, Ga., which reached the state tournament three times during his time there. Hollis is a 5-10 guard who averaged 13 points a game and shot 43 percent from 3-point range as a senior. He had a 3.5 grade point average.

Volleyball

* Covenant volleyball coach Joanna Ehman reported this past week the addition of five players to her 2016 recruiting class, including Emily Moore from Fort Myers, Fla., the sister of current Lady Scots standouts Ginny and Schuyler Moore. Emily is a 5-7 right-side hitter or defensive specialist who was the district player of the year for Evangelical Christian School, which finished third in the state in its classification. Other new Lady Scots are Allie Jakes, a 6-foot middle or right-side hitter from Maitland, Fla., and Orangewood Christian School whose sister Jessie is a former Covenant player; Chloe Storm, a 5-11 middle/outside hitter from Colorado Springs and The Classical Academy; Lindsey Stephens, a home-schooled 5-11 middle/right-side hitter from Durham, N.C.; and Haley Taylor, a home-schooled 5-8 outside hitter from DeLand, Fla. Stephens represented North Carolina in the 2016 Down Under Games in Australia. Covenant is the reigning USA South volleyball champion.
