Police say Chaston Leodis Cross was not happy two weeks ago when he saw his ex-girlfriend at her place of employment: BJ’s Puss N Boots.

Cross, 38, attacked her in the parking lot, according to an arrest report. He chased her inside and attacked her there, too. Eventually, he whipped out a gun and fired, according to the report.

On Wednesday, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office arrested Cross on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a controlled substance. A warrant citing six witnesses gives this account:

Cross approached his ex-girlfriend in the nightclub’s parking lot and threw a beer on her. Then he chased her inside, where he pulled out his handgun and struck her on the head, fracturing her skull.

Then he pulled the trigger. A bullet pierced the woman’s right shoulder, and Cross left.
