TRENTON, Ga. — Northwest Georgia YMCA Day Camp leaders say that, despite solid enrollment, they’re hoping more people register.
“We had a good amount of people show up,” Northwest Georgia Y director John Donahoo said of the camp, which began Tuesday at Trenton City Park. “They were excited to find out more about the program.”
He said the camp is for children age 5 to 12 and runs from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost is $95 for YMCA member children and $115 for nonmembers. Parents also can choose a two-day camp for $60.
The camp is a safe place for kids to have fun while their parents are at work, Mr. Donahoo said. They spend the days playing games, performing skits and swimming, and they also have fitness periods throughout the day to help improve or maintain their health, he said.
Bill Rush, YMCA representative, said several outdoor activities, including canoeing and hiking, may be held during the camp.
In addition to Day Camp, the Y is bringing swim lessons to Trenton.
Mr. Donahoo said the lessons will begin next week at the Trenton City Pool in the mornings before it opens to the public.
Prices for swim lessons are $70 for a nonmember for eight sessions, $40 for eight sessions for a member and $30 for kids already enrolled in Day Camp.
Both programs are expected to run all summer, Mr. Donahoo said.
